July 7 & 8: Prison to University Conference – ALIGN-Ed

The Prison to University Conference presents ALIGN-Ed (Arming Leaders Inspiring Growth & Networking) in Higher Education, a professional development and academic advancement event taking place on July 7th and 8th at the University of California, Irvine. This conference will foster collaboration between practitioners serving students impacted by the carceral system in California to streamline students’ academic advancement in higher education. It aims to highlight best practices, successes, and areas of improvement to further support formerly-incarcerated students statewide. The major practitioner networks involved in this conference include Rising Scholars (California Community Colleges), Project Rebound (California State University), and Underground Scholars (University of California).

The Conference will feature four breakout sessions, a final regrouping session for all conference attendees, and a social mixer. The event schedule and breakout session schedules can be found here. Breakout sessions will cover the following topics: youth pathways, transfer pathways, graduate school and professional degree pathways, and postgraduate employment pathways.

Registration is $10, and all registration fees will help fund scholarships for formerly-incarcerated students. Breakfast and lunch will be provided for all registered attendees.
